If You Didn’t Measure It – You Didn’t Do It! Part 1
If you’re going to spend money doing something, the only way to know if you accomplished your goal is to measure it. Here is a tool that works well to both define the problem and provide a yardstick against which to measure results.
The analysis breaks down into three main components:
- Need – What is the problem, and what is the result we expect from the money we are about to invest?
- Content – How will we move people to the desired result?
- Measurement – Did you actually meet, or better, exceed, the goals?
Need drives the entire process. You are not going to spend the money to do something that doesn’t need to be done. You have a situation or a problem – and it usually has a measurable cost – and you need to solve that problem, to eliminate, or at least significantly reduce that cost.
We may have to invest time or money to solve the problem, but if the problem is well defined and quantified, not only can we reduce or eliminate the problem with appropriately targeted communications; we can measure how well we did it. It could be increased sales, increased signups for a new program, or broader support within a community for a new service or idea. Whatever it is, it must have the necessary yardstick for success.
Let’s use an example to illustrate how this process functions and how well it can work.
Several years ago, a company was planning to introduce a new product into a saturated marketplace. The new product represented major innovations, and would likely have been very successful by itself, but the company needed to ensure that success and overcome several other issues. We’ll start the story of the launch in this article, and follow it through two more articles.
The NEED – The situation or problem:
- Moderate existing market share for existing product, #2 in sales
- Lack of respect for the company because of “me too” parity products in the past
- Low company sales force morale from carrying unexciting products
- Lack of personal contact by company executives with dealers across the country
- An exciting new product to launch, including many firsts, under a new brand umbrella, based on a new and very unfamiliar technology
The GOALS – what were the desired measurable results?
- Capture #1 sales position in the marketplace, as measured by published industry data
- Establish the new brand with dealers and consumers
- Build new levels of respect for the company brand and their sales force in the market place
- Dealer owners pleased with personal contact with company executives
- Retail clerks educated and excited about the new product, and motivated to sell the product and the company
- A memorable event to keep the company “top of mind” for the foreseeable future.
The Obstacles:
- Low respect for company in the market place – would dealers even listen?
- Large number of outlets and clerks to be informed/trained/motivated across the market, preferably in as short a time as possible
- The introduction would be in January/February, the worst time to travel a show around the country.
You can see how all of these elements defined the measurement criteria. Sales can be plotted against the launch. Market share is a standard industry published statistic, and can be plotted against the time of the launch. Respect will be reflected in the attitudes of the retail clerks to the sales representatives calling on the stores and the how the products and the company are received after the launch. This, and how well the event was remembered, would show up in weekly sales call reporting.
Observable, accurate, and actionable. The hallmarks of good metrics.
This is the first of Three Parts of this story.

It is becoming more and more popular to look for a personalised chart. Numerology can certainly offer you just that.
In fact you can easily find numerous sites on the Web today offering free Numerology charts.
But have you stopped to consider exactly what you’re probably getting?
The technological age has made much progress, computers being in the forefront but it has also quashed many freedoms.
Charts, whether they are based on Numerology or Astrology etc are after all metaphysical subjects.
Being Metaphysical means that these subjects are based on observation and experimentation rather than theory.
Surely for all their benefits computers cannot observe or experiment. Only a human being can do this.
I hear some of you saying that you agree with me, but that a computer program can be written by a human and therefore a chart can be still be relevant even though it originates from computer software.
I’m not saying that a Numerology chart created wholly from computer software will be completely wrong. I’m sure that it will pick up core elements and work out the correct numbers.
But when the whole chart is put together how can a computer give a correct overall picture from the sum of many pre-written component parts?
Only a human can interpret the sum of all the parts correctly.
So what do you get from a Numerology Chart?
The most important number in anybody’s numerology Chart is their Destiny number.
This is worked out from your date of birth and represents the lessons that you have to learn during this lifetime.
It shows you your potential, strengths and limitations.
More can be discovered by using your name as it appears on your birth certificate and translating that into numerical form.
You can discover your Soul Urge (how you’d like to be), your Quiet Self (how you dream of being) and your Expression (your talents and abilities and how you present to the world at large!)
So we’re already working with a possible 4 different numbers in different positions in your chart. Numerologically what does this mean?
Software produced charts will correctly calculate the right numbers but can they then relate each number to each other?
Maybe some numbers are harmonious in those positions but maybe some are not and then how do you know how to act for the best, to ease that disharmony?
Only a personal Numerologist with experience of how the numbers interact can correctly portray an individualised chart.
A detailed chart will then go on to include events from your past.
I find this very important, because if the past isn’t presented at all, or is presented incorrectly, how can a client have any faith in anything written about times to come?
Aswell as Karmic lessons, any Arrows of Pythagoras, Sub-cycles and Peaks- a chart will also include a detailed look at the present year you are on.
To me, the mass produced charts are entertaining but don’t tell all and fundamentally do not help you understand yourself and your potential.
Neither can you email the software at a later date and ask questions about what is written in your chart!
Numerology is the sacred ancient art of numbers.
If you do ever require a personalised chart. Please choose Numerology, but treat yourself to a comprehensive chart written and interpreted by a real person.
‘To thine own self be true’

Tracking your marketing and advertising campaigns is incredibly crucial to their effectiveness. You need to track who and where every lead comes from, which leads ended up paying you and how much, how much money and time went into each marketing and advertising effort, which leads were better than others in non-monetary ways, how many referrals have come from each lead source and how frequently, and more.
Build a spreadsheet that organizes everything. Compare the return on investment (ROI) for each marketing effort. Analyze and compare which marketing efforts are the most successful and profitable. Focus your future dollars and energies on these. Cut anything that doesn’t seem to be providing high returns (though, don’t be too quick to cut out the leads groups and other long-term networking efforts).
With regard to your pay per click (PPC) ad word campaigns and search engine optimization (SEO), there are really cool applications, called analytics, that collect, organize, and measure more information than you ever dreamed possible. Do not run any ad word, banner, or other online marketing campaign without using an analytics program or service. If you’re tech-savvy, then give one of the free ones a go, such as Google Analytics. If not, then pay for a service to do this for you.
A good ad campaign with solid analytics (assuming you have a competitive company, sales person, product, service, and pricing, obviously) can literally have a monthly ROI % in the 1000s, and an exponential monthly growth factor. These are very powerful tools when used correctly. If you want dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of clients every month, then you seriously need to make web 2.0, ad words, SEO, a blog, and analytics a central part of your business model and marketing plan. These kinds of results are absolutely possible, but you need to do them right to have that kind of success.

Ever notice how easy it is for someone to say “No?” Make it easier for them to say “Yes” by offering choices in your marketing.
If you’re a Realtor, rather than asking a listing prospect if they’re ready to list today, ask them if they’d like to list for 3 months, or for 6 months. If you’re trying to get an appointment with buyer prospects, ask them if they’d like to view homes on Friday or Saturday. Or ask them if they’d like to schedule time to see 3 homes or 5.
If you’re selling shoes ask if they’d like them in brown or black. If you sell furniture, ask them if they’d like the couch, or would prefer the whole set, with chair and ottoman to match.
That’s called an “assumptive close” because you go forward assuming that your prospect is going to say yes rather than fearing that they’ll say no.
It serves two purposes – the first being a change in your own attitude and the vibrations you give off. Your fear of a “no” could actually cause it to happen! We all give off vibrations all the time, and the one you want to give off is confidence. Confidence in yourself, and confidence that the product or service you offer is a good thing for your prospect.
The second reason is that as humans we all want to feel in control of our lives. We don’t want to be forced into a corner and we intensely dislike the “Now or never” ultimatum. I know, a whole lot of marketers use it, and some customers fall for it – out of fear.
But as a smart marketer, you’re in the business of creating lasting relationships with your clients – not one time orders based on fear of loss. You’ll gain their respect and their confidence when you offer them choices – even if that choice is waiting until next week to order.
If you’ve done the right things to collect your prospect’s names, you’ll be reminding them again in a few days. You can even tell them so, if you like.
You can use the same psychology in your on-line marketing and postal mailings.
Rather than offering a yes or no choice, offer 2 or 3 ways to take advantage of what you have to offer. Depending upon your product, it could be colors, styles, sizes, length of service, amount of service, or combinations of products and services.
For instance, if you have information products, why not offer individual e-books or bundles of 2 or more? Explain the difference between your books so your prospect has a clear understanding of which is best for his immediate needs – or why he needs them all.
If you’re selling a newsletter, offer choices in the length of the subscription. Of course offer discounts for longer terms, but let that be their choice, not your demand.
Whatever you’re selling – be it your services or your products, find some way to offer your buyers at least three choices – “no”, “yes this,” or “yes that.” And don’t mention the first one. They already know they can say no.
One caution – don’t overdo it. Remember that your goal is to make it easy for your prospects to say “yes” to something. When you offer too many choices you make it harder, so they’ll fall back on “no.”
A recent test showed that grocery store shoppers who were offered samples of a new jelly/jam brand chose a flavor and purchased when there were 4 or 5 choices. When they increased the number of choices to 15 or 20, they didn’t buy at all. Making the decision was simply too hard, so they walked away.
So, balance is once again the answer. Avoid only one choice, avoid too many choices. Always make it easy for your customers to say yes, based on a few good choices.

Think your job is dull? Check out some of the bizarre things people do for a living in this list of jobs you probably didn’t know existed. You’ll either wish you were doing one of these, or you’ll be thankful for the job you do have. And now, the top 10 weirdest, most ridiculous jobs out there:
Pet Food Taster Not only do these people eat dog food all the time, some actually enjoy it! It’s kind of like wine connoisseurs enjoying a new wine, except its stuff your dog or cat eats. To each their own…
Gross stunt producer If you’ve ever seen a show where people have to do disgusting things for money (like wade through rat-infested sewers or eat living bugs), rest assured it’s because someone’s job is to come up with such twisted concepts. A surprising amount of research is necessary to make sure that your ideas are not only gross, but also safe.
Bad Breath Smeller How else would you figure out if your company’s chewing gum is getting the job done? This also implies there are people whose job it is to chew gum and breathe in people’s faces.
Whiskey Ambassador Getting paid to drink whiskey- a job college kids everywhere can only dream of. These lucky people’s responsibilities include selecting the best whiskeys and teaching clients how to fully appreciate each whiskey’s nuances.
Ufologist As the name implies, ufologists are all about the study of UFO’s. History, recent reports, government conspiracies, it’s all included, so if the unknown is your passion this might not be a bad start.
Cryptozoologist These are the people you see on television explaining so convincingly why Big Foot or the Loch Ness monster are real. It’s all about using your science skills in less conventional ways.
Chicken Sexer The actual job responsibilities for these guys are relatively mundane- chicken sexers just have to figure out what gender baby chicks are and sort them accordingly. Still, nothing quite spices up your resume like a job with that title.
Pathoecologist You’d be surprised how much you can learn from…poop. Pathoecologists study feces from thousands of years ago, learning much about the lifestyles and diets of our ancestors.
Foley artist You probably hear their work all the time and don’t even realize it- foley artists are responsible for making those everyday environmental sounds in movies and shows on television. They often utilize whatever objects they please (from watermelons to flare guns) to accentuate sounds.
Queen Bee Producer If bees aren’t your thing this is probably the least desirable job out there, as these people work with bees everyday. But not just any bees- they specifically raise the most impressive of them all: the queens.

Fraud is an ever increasing problem in our society today we can all take steps to ensure that we do not become victims of fraud. Millions of pounds a year are lost to criminals from fraudulent operations. It is essential that we take steps to protect our private information and prevent identity theft. Make sure when you throw old bank statements out into the rubbish that you have shredded the statements so that nobody is able to read the details. The cost of a shredder is nothing compared to the cost you may suffer should you become a victim of fraud or identity theft.
When you’re using your card at a cash machine please make sure nobody is able to see you entering your PIN. You must also make sure to check if there is anything suspicious or unusual about the cash machine you are using. Fraudsters have been known to attach devices to cash machines that will read the data on your card and enable them to clone it. Please also make sure that when you are giving your card to a waiter in a restaurant that we do not take the card out of your sight. They have been known to steal the contents of your card and hand the card back to you as if nothing has happened. You will then log into your bank account and discover that many large amounts of money and been extracted from your account without your knowledge.
Please also be very wary of any unsolicited e-mails arriving in your inbox asking you to give money to participate in a scheme with guaranteed rewards. Remember that if something is too good to be true it probably is. Please also be aware that your bank will not send you an e-mail asking you for your online banking details. Fraudsters have been known to write e-mails pretending to be from banks asking you for your details to, for example, validate your account. You should ignore these e-mails and do not write anything back to them. These are organized criminals and you should not ever engage with them.

Your work schedule is tight – meetings and conferences and phone calls all day long. If you are lucky to get a moment to eat, you probably only have time to wolf down a hamburger from the fast food joint by your office, or something from the employee lounge vending machine, assuming you were unable to pack a lunch. Assuming, of course, you have time to shop for groceries at all!
In our society of quick fixes and rushed time, however, we find that many people who eat on the run wind up on the express lane to obesity, despite the output of energy in a given day. We know it is a vicious cycle that must be broken, but is there a way to at least tap the brakes a bit without crashing?
If you keep up with the news, you may have noticed the more popular fast food chains have altered their menus in order to compete with the rise of “fast casual” restaurants – sit-down establishments that resembles more formal eateries, but deliver food with the same speed and efficiency of a fast food place. Walk into a newly renovated McDonald’s and likely you won’t see plastic cartoon characters inviting you to sit in molded plastic booths. You may find a more relaxed atmosphere, mature decor and even wireless access so you can take work to lunch. Next to the colorful kids’ meals on the menu, too, you will find more sophisticated fare, like salads and fruit and vegetable side options.
So if you choose to continue the fast track to lunch, what should you eat in order to maintain a good diet? For all the changes in appearance, burgers and fries are still burgers and fries, and the sodium and fat contents of both remain despite the packaging.
For our Compuslim.com customers, we are happy to suggest menus to help slow the fat attack. We hope you will find this information valuable as well.
Coupled with bottled water instead of soda (always the best choice as far as drinks go), you can find some nutritional value when you eat on the run. Keep an even pace with just 30 minutes of exercise a day, and the next changes you see may appear in the way you look and feel.
Please note, though, that eating the meals on a regular basis will not guarantee weight loss. This guide is merely to offer the healthiest possible alternatives when patronizing these establishments. We at Compuslim hope our everybody who is serious about losing weight will continue to research their nutrition needs and learn what foods are best for them to eat to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
McDonald’s
To look at Ronald McDonald, it appears he has always looked slim, yet not everybody who includes McDonald’s food in a regular diet looks the same way. Just one Big Mac is 560 calories and has 30 grams of fat – on many eating regimens, that could represent a half a day of eating! For menu options that won’t take bust your belt or your wallet, you could try the following:
OPTION ONE: One regular hamburger, one side salad with light balsamic vinegarette dressing (used sparingly)
OPTION TWO: California Cobb Salad without chicken, with light balsamic vinegarette dressing (used sparingly)
OPTION THREE: Asian Salad no chicken with light sesame ginger dressing (used sparingly)
Burger King
You can still “have it your way” at this landmark chain restaurant, and the good news is that your way doesn’t necessarily have to lead to weight gain. Next time you visit the King, try the alternatives to the hamburgers offered:
OPTION ONE: Grilled chicken sandwich and side salad, dressing used sparingly
OPTION TWO: Grilled chicken salad, dressing used sparingly
Wendy’s
One of Wendy’s biggest selling points is their value menu, where you can find a number of items for about a dollar each. It may surprise you to know, too, a number of these items have been offered for many years, and have always been good alternatives to triple-patty hamburgers:
OPTION ONE: Large chili, side salad, dressing used sparingly
OPTION TWO: Baked Potato no butter or sour cream, large chili
OPTION THREE: Grilled chicken sandwich, side salad, dressing used sparingly
Taco Bell
Oftentimes people are led to believe that if food contains certain ingredients or is prepared in a certain way (like in a tortilla instead of a carb-heavy bun), that it must be healthier. Not necessarily so. Wherever you go, be vigilant about what you eat, and if you head for this border you may want to consider the following for your next meal:
OPTION ONE: Chicken “Enchirito” no cheese, “Cinnamon Twists”
OPTION TWO: Bean burrito no cheese, “Cinnamon Twists”
OPTION THREE: Two chicken soft tacos, no cheese or avocado dressing
To calculate possible menus at other popular fast food restaurants, visit the corporate websites of your favorite restaurants. Many have online calculators handy to total the overall nutritional value of your food choices. From there you can make sound decisions about what you eat.

Some time ago we talked about the circumstances under which hiring a consultant can add value to a business. If you’ve already established the need to recruit one, pay attention to a few issues before you plunge headlong into a contract. Here’s a quick checklist.
Assess in-house expertise. First of all, make sure that you’re not hiring a consultant to teach you things you already know! The best way to do so is to include your senior managers in the decision, and ask them about the existing pockets of expertise in their respective functions. At the end of it all, you might find that you have a smaller or even no need for an outside expert! Better now, than later.
Investigate credentials. There are consultants, and there are consultants. Each of them will have their strengths and weaknesses. Do a thorough background check on the consultant you plan to hire, in terms of capability, commitment and compatibility. Talk to the consultant’s other clients about their experience, if possible.
Pay attention to the contract. Hiring a consultant is serious and expensive business, and is more likely than not to leave a lasting impact on your company. Hence, you can’t seal a consulting assignment on a mere smile and handshake. Draw up a proper contract, which comprehensively covers all important points relating to the scope of the assignment, costs and fee associated with the engagement, and, of course, key deliverables. Have it looked at by someone who understands legalese.
Sign a confidentiality agreement. A consultant will be privy to a lot of internal data – make sure your interests are protected by getting him or her to sign an agreement of confidentiality. You can find guidelines on drafting one in our earlier story on the subject, or better still. If the project is of critical importance, you may like to include a clause that prohibits the consultant to work with a competitor for a certain period after the completion of your assignment.
Shop around. Price is always an issue, and when it comes to the expensive business of hiring a consultant, even more so. An established consultant may just charge for his or her reputation, make sure you find out what the going rate is. Often, you can agree to a basic fee, topped up by a generous bonus in proportion to the end result.
Describe your requirements. The very purpose of hiring a consultant is defeated if there is no clarity on expected results. It is in your interest to ensure that the boundaries of the engagement are made crystal clear – that includes deliverables, timelines and cost considerations.
Involve your team. This is the most important commandment for a company hiring a consultant. No one likes having an outsider telling them how to do their job, your staff included. Share with them the reason for taking on an expert, and what benefits you expect by doing so. Impress upon them the need to support the project, and its impact on the goals of the organization. Once they get used to the idea, it won’t seem like such a bitter pill to swallow. From your perspective, you need to ensure ground level support, without which you can kiss any chances of successful implementation goodbye!

How important is the mobile phones in human life nowadays?
Billions of people in the world today realize how essential mobile phones are their lives. Mobile phones have become a part of everyday life for many individuals and some could not even manage to last an hour without them. This is also the fashion trend nowadays. If you do not own a cellular phone, you are not in. They turned out to be the personal dairies of a lot of people. Mobile phones have even become the timepieces as people are more likely to check the time in their handsets. This device calculates, wakes people up, and reminds them of all occasions and appointments.
Many of mobile phone models feature FM receivers and the user can just turn on the music to be calmed while traveling or driving. (Just don’t make a call while driving!) And if you like videos and games, mobiles have them, too. They also feature cameras, making it easier to capture crucial moments. This technology enables mobile phone users to access the Internet.
In choosing the right mobile phone for you, needless to say you want something that can give you the best features, with easy and convenient attributes. The fantastic benefits of mobile phones are in store, yet they also have certain challenges. For instance, travelers aren’t so sure whether handsets will work when they are traveling from one place to another. However majority of mobile phones companies offer international roaming technology wherein one can get in touch with anyone from anywhere in the world. With roaming features, sending text messages and calls can be inexpensive and less stressful. The price per call is cheaper than when using landline phones for long distance calls.
One of the most remarkable values of mobile phones is during emergencies, may it big or small. We never know when we or our loved ones may need to make an emergency phone call. In situations when finding public phone is difficult, mobiles are the answer to your need. These devices are also very functional for businesspeople and trading companies because they can easily get in touch with their clients.
Both SMS and calls are exploited by business people to market and promote their products. Through mobiles, one can do finances updates and banking these days. They help find out the latest news through text messages sent by means of subscribing to certain services. There are mobile phones that provide you the information such as names, number, and even the exact map of who is calling you.
Mobiles are of use to the elderly and handicapped, as well. Like for example, the visually impaired have their “talking mobile phones” wherein they can read the text messages. These special talking mobile phones are feature phones installed with software to make it “talk”. Since the unit talks, the visually impaired can read his messages without having a sighted person read it for him.
Mobile phones also provide the user the confidence to get out and go places because they know they can avail assistance if needed. The cost of the mobile phones is similar to other models of communication. If you can have a family plan, your expense for monthly cell phone service can be much cheaper than the cost for using landline service. You can have the chance to call anytime, anywhere.

Fortune recently released a list of America’s most admired companies for 2008. That list was broken down into eight different categories, one of which was financial soundness.
Financial soundness is not just necessary for big corporations like Exxon Mobil, United Parcel Service and Berkshire Hathaway, companies that stole the numbers one, two and three spots on Fortune’s list. Financial soundness is also very important for small businesses.
Encarta dictionary defines the word sound as sensible, not damaged, healthy and/or completely acceptable. It even goes as far as to explain the word in the financial sense, defining the word as “financially secure and likely to make money.”
So how does one get his/her business to the point of financial soundness? There is no cut-out plan that works for any and every small business owner. But you can bet that it takes, planning, research, dedication and of course money. But how does a business owner get the money he/she needs to run a financially sound business when banks are barely lending? A business cash advance is one way.
The increased cash flow that can result from a business cash advance, allows small business owners to have funds for advertisement, expansion, renovations, or simply working capital, which is essential for a small business.
Nowadays, business cash advances are so important for a small business’s financial soundness because the sources that many small business owners used to turn to in the past for financing, such as banks, are no longer providing the funds needed; and many of those that are, are doing so with increased requirements. But to be eligible to receive a business cash advance, a small business owner simply must own a business that processes a minimum of $5,000 in credit card sales every month, and have been the owner of that business for at least six months.
No collateral, no restrictions on how the funds can be used, and the possibility to receive funds in as little as ten business days have made the business cash advance a great source for business owners attempting to increase the financial soundness of their businesses.
Gaston C. writes articles about Business Cash Advances for Merchant Resources International.
